What The Work Involves
When a basketball court needs resurfacing
Basketball courts take constant impact from running, jumping and dribbling, with wear concentrated in the key and under the hoop. The signs are familiar: dead spots where the ball no longer bounces true, bare patches where the texture has worn away, a faded key and three-point line, cracks, and water ponding after rain. Any of these means the surface is due for attention before the damage spreads into the base.
Surface preparation
The court is pressure-cleaned and inspected across its full area. Cracks are cleaned out and filled, low spots are levelled so the court drains and bounces evenly, and loose or delaminating coating is removed back to sound material. Where the base has settled or cracked badly we set out the repair options clearly, including the case for a new slab where that is the better investment.
Resurfacing and coating
Filler and texture coats seal the prepared surface and build a uniform texture across the whole court, which is what gives a consistent ball bounce and reliable footing. Colour coats follow, with the key and lane areas typically painted in a contrasting colour to the rest of the court and the surrounds. We work with more than one surface coating system and recommend the one best suited to the court, how it is used and your budget.
Line marking
Boundary lines, centre circle, the key, free-throw line and three-point arc are set out from measured points and masked before painting. We mark full-court and half-court layouts, and basketball lines can be added to a multi-purpose court in a distinct colour alongside netball or tennis markings.
New basketball court construction
New courts are built from the ground up: site levelling and base compaction, drainage falls, the playing slab, footings for the hoop and backboard posts, fencing and surrounds, and finally the coating system and lines. Half courts are a practical option for homes and smaller sites, and we build both.
Durability and playing performance
A properly resurfaced basketball court gives a true, consistent bounce across the whole playing area, good grip for quick changes of direction, and colour that lasts. Routine sweeping and clearing of debris is all that is needed to keep it in good condition, and small cracks dealt with early keep the surface sound for years.
